Cyntoia Brown was only 16 years old when she began getting sex trafficked by various pimps. On August 6, 2004 , Johnny Allen, also known as “Cut-throat,” was one of the men to sexually abuse and rape her— as well as the last.

Allen picked Brown up from a parking lot, then took her home to have sex with her. Later that night when Allen slept and Brown laid next to him, she rose quietly from the bed, found her purse and pulled out a gun.

According to the documents presented in court, Brown then aimed the gun at Allen while he slept and shot him behind his head, causing him to die. Brown claims that she killed Allen as an act of self defense.

Brown was sentenced 51 years to life in prison for 1st degree murder, Brown won’t be able to be out on parole until she is 67 years old.

Brown was never tried as the minor she was at the time of the murder, she was tried as a legal adult which as a result concluded that she would potentially be in prison until the end of her life.

Brown, now 29 years old, has been in a Nashville, Tennessee prison for 13 years.

The case was resurfaced this year, in 2017, when Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Cara Delevinge all used the #freecyntoiabrown after their post in which they commented about the situation and how they felt about the results.

In recent interviews when Brown got asked about how she feels about all the support and commentary she has been receiving, Brown stated, “Just to see all the people and all the different organizations who believe in me and who want to stand up for me is humbling and mind blowing.”

Many of Browns supporters continue to try and find justice for her and continue to stand with her as the case is resurfaced.
