Ashley Serra, a very involved senior at The Valley, has really made a name for herself this 2017-18 school year. The President of CV’s drama club and overall role as a leader in our school’s musical department, Serra is a well rounded student with a bright future ahead of her.

This spring, Serra is directing the last play of the school year on her own. Blue Yonder will be performed in Henrichsen auditorium in May. “I’m excited and ready for Blue Yonder to start coming together,” Serra stated. The play focuses on women sharing the stories and experiences they’ve had as a woman. “It will be the first all-female cast to take Chippewa’s stage,” Serra added.

When asked about her experience aiding Chippewa’s own Nick Marinello during Big Fish, Serra shared, “Assistant-directing this year’s musical has helped me prepare for Blue Yonder by teaching me that not everything can be perfect on stage. It’s about giving your all no matter what obstacles are thrown at you.” Serra has clearly gained knowledge and experience from her work in Big Fish, and she has shown her readiness to take on a production on her own, which is exactly why she is the perfect person to take on Blue Yonder.

Serra also has spent her fair share of time on stage, owning roles such as Pugsly in The Addams Family and Pinocchio in Shrek, two of CV’s past musicals. Playing lead roles has helped her strengthen her directing skills as well, as she knows what it’s like from both on stage and off stage.

“I’m excited to present such a powerful collection of women’s monologues to the community,” Serra expressed. Being the first all-female cast we’ve ever had here at The Valley, the upcoming play is surely not one you’ll want to miss.
