Bright, joyous, and extravagant! These are only a few ways to describe the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. With music and cheer, this parade is a great start to the winter holidays. Chippewa’s very own marching band is honored to walk in the parade this year and has for many years in the past. Here is an inside look at what it is like to be one of the outstanding performers.

Amelia Piteo, the marching band’s drum major this year, gives her insight on the overwhelming experience. “It is super festive and the crowds are much bigger. Their applause motivates us and makes us feel very much appreciated”, said Piteo. Amelia also talked about how this year’s parade is very special to her since it is her last year and she is a drum major. “I never truly noticed how many people rely on you until I became a drum major.”

A senior in marching band, Micah Stallings, said her absolute favorite part of the parade is the TV Zone. This is the part of the parade that is shown on television. Cameras are all over and come at the performers from all different angles. Stallings expressed that, “even though the cold wind is blowing in your face and your fingers feel like icicles, it is all worth it in the end when you march through the TV Zone and everyone is cheering for you.” Amelia added to this that, “everyone in the band is tired and cold until we reach the TV Zone. This is the point where everyone gets fired up and starts to really put forth the effort.”

Overall, the two said they have very much enjoyed their years marching with the band and that the experience was something they will remember forever. Tune into Channel 4 this Thanksgiving to see these miraculous performers in the Thanksgiving Day Parade!
