Attention CVHS underclassmen; it’s time to get ready for the PSAT and the SAT! I talked to a few seniors to find what study tips they used and what helped them prepare for their SAT.

Seniors, Anne Maxim and Jackson Pitlock, stressed how much the SAT can affect future college plans. “You need to make sure you are preparing and using your time well because the test is so important towards your future,” says Maxim. Pitlock added, “it’s crazy how much of a difference 30 points can make,” which is completely true. Some schools offer a better scholarship just for getting as little as 30 points extra on your SAT. It can also affect your acceptance into programs, such as Nursing or Engineering.

I also asked Maxim and Pitlock what tips they had for underclassmen getting ready to take the test. Both strongly suggested taking an SAT prep class, which is now offered at Chippewa every Monday and Wednesday. You can also pay to take classes elsewhere; Macomb Community College offers a great class as well. It’s a one day class that is about the length of a school day. Food is included and you get a great understanding of the test. Pitlock also suggested taking the ACT as well, while Maxim suggested retaking the SAT at least once to try and better your score. “The more experience you have, the better you will do,” claims Maxim. The seniors also recommended that underclassmen utilize the practice tests on Khan Academy, as they helped them a lot with their studies.

Although the SAT may be stressful, you can certainly make it easier for yourself by correctly preparing for the test.
