This year, the Chippewa Valley Boy’s Varsity tennis team came back better than ever before!

With last years record of 4-2 in the Mac Blue and a total record of 7-7, the team truly did step it up this season, surprising everyone with the outcome so far. With the players stepping up in the off season, preparing for what was to come, they themselves were not surprised when they won the district title for their division.

Not winning a district title since 2003 made the victory even sweeter.

“Winning districts is a great feeling. We worked really hard for it and after a few years of not winning much, it was great to start winning again,” senior Anthony Cardamone, co-captain of the varsity team stated.

Varsity coach, Dan Krsteski, added, “It feels great to be on top of the division and knocking at the door against teams in stronger divisions. We are fortunate to have an experienced team with a desire to win.”

The entire team had high hopes for this season as they put in extra work and preparation for the season. Senior Andrew Dubon stated, “We started practicing earlier and we had early and late hitting sessions to get back in the groove before the season started.” Their first practice as a team took place the second week of August, and their first match was on August 22nd. Although, prior to their first practice, players took it upon themselves to work privately before and outside of practices. “We were all hungry for redemption from the previous year when we placed second in the Mac Blue tournament. We all really strived to be better in every aspect from last year,” stated Dubon.

The team accomplished much of what they set their minds to. “It’s always a highlight beating Dakota,” Coach Krsteski explained, “being able to celebrate the victory and watch the boys celebrate on Dakota’s home courts is a great memory.”

Beating Dakota in every sport is always a great win, but this is the boys tennis team’s first victory against the Cougars in 14 years. Another great highlight from this season was when the boys beat Fraser and won the Mac Blue. The matches were incredibly intense since both teams were undefeated and these were the matches that decided the Mac Blue victors.  One last highlight that stands out to the boys is the victory against De La Salle and knocking out a win in the Catholic division.

“I had high hopes this season. It is much different from past seasons. We have returned with a lot of good and experienced players.” co-captain Jacob Bobzin said, “We have a much better team than before so we are winning a lot more, and that’s what makes it more fun.”

The CVHS Varsity Boys tennis team really proved themselves this season and are ready to prove themselves even more in Regionals on October 13th!

Good luck boys!
